It's no secret that there are a few people on this forum who like sodium lamps, and think they are superior in every way (I happen to be one of them). However, it is sadly clear that LEDs are here to stay. So, with that in mind, instead of trying to get rid of the things, why not try working with them? Instead of the horrid glare from the daylight white LED modules currently used in street lighting, why not try amber/yellow LEDs?
The warm light they give off doesn't have as bad of a glare, it contains much less blue light, and mimics sodium quite well. I have just found an online petition which is campaigning for UK street lights to use such amber LEDs. It may not change much, but there's no harm in trying is there? While myself and others still want SOX
and SON
to reign supreme, this is the next best thing. I have linked the petition page below in the event you want to sign it.
