What would happen if I covered a CFL with aluminum foil I mean so light tight that light would not be able to get out

The CFL fluoro tube might overheat and run a higher mv pressure and be less efficent.  If you cover the base too it probably won't last long...

Done that and it got very hot and leaked out some nasty brown goop.
