I've started noticing that lately people on here have started to favor non working and EOLED fixtures over the vintage HID, Fluorescent, and Incandescent. When Marvin (marvinsuggs on LG) posted some of Joe's photos in 2018 he was surprised at how little comments were on them. Even when some of the older lights are posted, they're not getting much attention but when failed LEDs are posted, they get lots of attention. I came on this site to share VINTAGE lights and not the modern pieces of crap seen today. I will continue to post older fixtures with the occasional LED but I don't know how or why we went down a different path.

@CreeRSW207 - I understand where you're coming from, and I am no fan of LED either, but I'd be careful about using words like 'crap' and other terms that may be seen as derogatory. We have members that like all forms of lighting, and if you start along that road, it may result in disagreements being aired. This is how flame wars start, and I have no wish to see that happen again.

Ok, no problem. I will watch my wording next time.

The change will shift now that most lighting enthusiasts are starting to accept that traditional light sources are coming to the end of their time, (whether it’s wanted or not), but it’s not just on LG, it’s been mentioned before that activity on all lighting sites is starting to diminish! I remember in my early days on ATL, when the first mention of T12 fluorescent were going to be banned by the EU, there was hell to play! Every night a new topic was started on the forums where collectors were worried what they were going to do, how they were going to source tubes, and what would happen to existing 8 foot fittings?
This all fizzled out over time, and it’s was accepted, but like has been mentioned on here before, if you go back to the start of LG, the mercury to HPS changeover wasn’t taken well either, as well as the announcement on TLR of Hamilton closing its doors to SOX production! I don’t think it’s necessarily anything against vintage lighting, it’s more of what’s in use today, and what people see day to day in life, and what people have more experience of at the time, like HID was 10 years ago! Also, what Ria has touched upon a few weeks ago, there’s a lot of younger members joining today that sadly have missed out on what now is considered ‘vintage’ lighting?

For me, it's more what I would call "traditional" lighting, rather than vintage as such. To me, that encompasses everything until LED, and as I've said before, my dislike of them comes primarily from the fact that they've been effectively forced upon us due to the manufacture of anything else being ceased. I detest being told what I must do or have, and my gut instinct is to rebel. If LED's could have simply existed alongside other forms of lighting, rather than what seems to be the only light source that is now being made, then maybe I wouldn't hate them so much.

Hello CreeRSW207,
I agree with your observation. It is normal in my opinion for some people in LG to take an interest in modern technology.
Personally, I am not interested in technology with LEDs. My interest is in discharge lamps and older fixtures.
I would like to thank you if you continue to deliver the topics of old and conventional lighting in the future.
The topics and posts in LG are varied, from very good to bad. Each user assesses that here individually.
I do it here in LG, like with a newspaper: I don't read the whole newspaper - I read the topics that interest me.
Greetings from Hamburg
Olav

I veiw modern LED tech on LG as LED consumer report To weed out good ones and bad ones. And yes might as Well let LEDs collector begins.
But also older tech we all we can do is do Preservation And how to keep them running. In 10-15 years The flurescent mag ballast that once so common That it will dry up. It going to come to a point a newbie is going have to start finding out how To ballast a dishcjarge lamp.
It said in my generation is seeing all light sources In the last 35 years how it evolves

I don't know if it's really all that different from when I joined. Back then there was plenty of shade thrown on CFLs which were dominant at the time, as well as mourning the old mercury form 400s and silverliners being replaced by HPS OVXs, modern M400s and durastars. Now LEDs have taken on the roll that CFLs took back than, and people are mourning the LED displaced M400s and OVXs (but not the durastars )

That’s an interesting way of looking at it Jeremy, that LED interest is more of a consumer report, that’s what I was trying to say when I said it’s what people have more experience with day to day! But it’s also interesting that when CFL came out nobody bothered with it at first because of its high cost and older forms of lighting remained on the shelves for consumers who preferred the traditional lamps, and when they did take off, older stuff was STILL there. Fast forward to when LED came out, again nobody bothered with it because of the cost and kept using CFL/Halogen lamps, the difference here though, when LED did become excepted, it was like a green light to get rid of everything else completely!, that’s indeed a little confusing in itself?

I don't need consumer reports to tell me what L*D's are like, all I have to do is look out of the window
