All lighting except LED rules!
|
The other day I saw an MV streetlight get relamped! So apparently my town only replaces fixtures with LED if their ballasts are bad but if the lamps are bad, they get relamped. My town is still mostly HPS and MV.

My town does not have incandescent sadly. The light in question that got relamped was a Unistyle I believe (I don't know much about MV lights.) There were TONS of MV missouts during the HPS conversion here which happened when I was very young. I do remember that shortly before my street was converted to HPS, I remember the streetlights were MV and it looked really cool.

I'm more on the unfortunate side when it comes to older HID lighting in public use. I don't think I have ever seen any MV cobraheads in utility service. All I've ever seen in utility service as far as MV goes is NEMA heads in my area (gone) and a few Powr/Brackets, and that's it. LPS was never in use here as far as I know.
My hometown of Eatonville had their existing HPS lights changed out in 2017. There used to be mainly first generation GE M-400As in FCO, AEL Series 115s, and Cooper OVHs before they were switched out for Leotek GreenCobras and AEL ATB0s.
All of the HIDs in Ohop Mutual territory were gone by 2018 (conversion started in 2015). There used to be tons of MV and HPS NEMA heads and a few Howard Lighting USC3s in FCO 100W HPS. All were replaced by Evluma AreaMaxes, which are actually very nice fixtures. I have only seen three failures in the near 100 they installed. The light output is great, no color shifting to be seen, and they have lasted for a long time.
One thing I'm very grateful for is WSDOT's lighting system. Most DOTs have done their LED conversion. WSDOT has not. They are known for have lots of Hubbell RLCs. Those fixtures are not common in most other states. The amount of them in Washington state probably numbers in the thousands. I'm very grateful for that. It's probably not something that other members here see every day.

Growing up on the MS Gulf Coast in the late 80s/early 90s, it was 90% Mercury Vapor, and 10% HPS. Once the casinos started parking, they started installing more HPS. But HWY 90 in Biloxi (Beach Blvd.) use to be nothing but 400w GE M400A MV. About half of THOSE were so dim, there might as well not have been anything there at all. In the late 1990s, the city did a relamp, and installed Intermatic photo controls. Then in the early 2000s, Mississippi Power took over and installed Cooper OVXs 250w HPS.
Mississippi Power in the 1980s was nothing BUT M250R1 and M400A in the early 1980s, and many of the M250R1s are still in some of the neighborhoods (though they all look like 💩 due to the salt corrosion)

My town I believe still relamps HPS, but MV fixtures would get replaced with HPS, and now they get replaced with LED. There are still a few mercs around though.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Maybe the fixture that got replaced will appear at the ReStore for extremely cheap like how my 115's did! I think my town donates the streetlights unless the ballast is bad. I am going today so wish me luck!
