If properly setted, both will do the same job to avoid light emmission in unwanted direction (so upwards) However, there is diference in how they influence the main light beam. The flat lense expect, the reflector does everything necessary for required light distribution in the illuminated area. You recognise suh lantern by having the lens clear, without any light control elements (only act as a cover; mostly is "dropped" only to keep it away from lamp heat, what the plastic does not endure). If this is the case, the flat lens will serve better, you should make sure you use correct lamp type (clear/coated, LCL,...). If your lantern rely on the lens to distribute the light (there is a kind of grating), you cannot simply remove it, as you would loose it's light redistribution properties, so the only option left is the Glare Shield.
