Running 310w S67 HPS lamps on 400w M135/M155 PSMH CWA ballasts « on: March 08, 2021, 10:17:04 PM » Author: WorldwideHIDCollectorUSA
After I have been able to run a North American 310w S67 high pressure sodium lamp on a North American 400w M135/M155 pulse start metal halide CWA ballast, the lamp was able to run at around 125v 3.3a while it is intended for 100v 3.6a operation. I have been told by James that a mercury vapor or metal halide ballast’s temperature does not change if I use a high pressure sodium lamp designed for a slightly lower arc voltage compared to mercury vapor lamps or metal halide lamps that run at the same arc voltage and current as their mercury vapor counterparts. In addition, I have been told by Joe Maurath Jr. that it is safe to underdrive HID lamps on HX or choke ballasts, but not CWA ballasts. Should I be concerned about damaging my 400w M135/M155 pulse start metal halide ballast if it is a CWA ballast?

HPS lamps are characterised by voltage rise during life, and this can cause CWA ballast to allow the lamp to run at dangerously high power loading.

From what I understand, North America does use CWA ballasts for high pressure sodium lamps. I am still wondering if the 400w M135/M155 pulse start metal halide ballast will be damaged by operating the 310w S67 high pressure sodium lamp on it.
