Help? « on: June 06, 2009, 11:54:15 PM » Author: KEDER
How can i mount my m-400 R2 on the wall? I dont really like the pointed up mounting, so i want help on how to mount it on my room. My room is small, Not very high ceiling, and pretty much all drywall (except the doors) but the doors aren't strong enough to hold a 50 pound light fixture! Even drywall! So what would i do? ANd also i want to make the light look new. I want to repaint it, (help with that too? where can i find streetlight paint?!) And to get rid of the marks i drew on it... And i want to fix the broken wire (with a whole new wire (white) With those slip on connectors. So how can i do that? I would APPRECIATE it if you can help =) Thanks!

I'll try and help...for the mounting, you will have to find out where the wall studs are for strength. You can use the threaded flange you have and use 2 #14 3" long screws and attach it where there is a stud so it won't pull out.To make it look like new,you can use any light grey spray paint and give it a couple coats, you can sand off your marks or just paint over them, remove the glass refractor, bail latch and mask the PC receptacle.Find some crimp-on connectors, you may need a crimping tool if you don't have one,and high temp white wire from your local hardware store rated for 105*C. Hopefully this helps.

I changed my mind about mounting, and also, i do want it mounted different than it is atm. i want it on a stand. (kind of like it is now) but i want it facing right instead of pointed up. How do i do that? There is something special you have to do to do it that way, because of how heavy the light is. So how could i do that? And where do i get a curved mounting pole?

Here's something that may give you ideas, this is how I made my display...(check the last pictures)

how I built my streetlight display (the last 11 pictures (not in order)

By the way for the curved arm (without the mounting part) look in the electrical aisle in hardware store, you will find EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing (not the plumbing and piping area, usually in electrical...) you will see long metal poles look around that area you may find 90 degree ones on shelves....I used a 1 inch and a half....but now I recommend 1 inch and 1/4 for the arm only.....because the fixtures some can't go bigger than 1 inch 1/4 I once broke one of my NEMA's installing it in a 1 and 1/2 pipe......but some streetlights only accept 2 inch (usually the much older ones...such as OV-12 and OV-14B)

By the way to connect 2 poles like mine, instead of using connectors with screws...use those that uses compression pressure...i forgot what they are called, but they are connectors with 2 nut-like rings on them that tightens onto the pole, they will look better.....I have learned a lot along the way...
