My new goal in collecting lighting is to find at least 5 Lifeguard lamps per year, preferably Westinghouse. I hope to get a complete set of /DX Westinghouse Lifeguards someday specifically. I will also post photos of my progress for every year.

I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

Good luck ! It shouldn't be TOO awfully difficult as most Westies are readily available on eBay , etc.

Thanks! It shouldn’t be too hard, as long as the lamps aren’t too expensive. I’m going to start on eBay with a Lifeguard 75w /DX. I already got a H33GL-400/DX yesterday.

The hardest /DX Westy lifeguard to find is a 1kW H34 lamp.

I love to create spreadsheets, so this year my goal is to create a spreadsheet for cataloguing our lamps.   :wndr:
Wish me luck.!  :mrg:
There has to be getting on for 500 lamps to list  :poof:

I like the Lifeguard lamps. I finally got one in my collection I found at Habitat last year. :) I've found two vintage MV lamps at Habitat so far, that were like new. So you might check any that might be in your area.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

I’m hoping to acquire more classic GE cobraheads as most of my collection is modern stuff.

I’m hoping for more classic or vintage fixtures as well. I have many vintage lamps, but only modern fixtures (for example, my 2013 GE M-400).

I realize that I'm seen as an incandescent fan but now I'm looking to start collecting fluorescents, T12s only.
While I'm looking for several different types of fluorescents my true prize would be a 2x2 parabolic troffer with a pair of T12 U-bends with vintage GE mod-u-lines.

Back in the early days of this website I was mostly into streetlights, but they were the unreachable goal. However I was soon drowned into ancient fluorescent tubes & gear thanks to a recycling centre in my area, so my attention shifted to that sub-field of lighting. I may have provided some valuable historical information about fluorescent lighting equipment made and sold in Canada in the 60s to 90s, can't really tell myself...

Times have changed. Now most of the bulky stuff (expect the valuable pieces) is gone, and I doubt I'll ever get back to collecting stuff again. Though I'm filling a list of future projects that combine that old hobby of mine with newer hobbies. For example I'm considering trying to design electronic ballasts for mercury vapour lamps. Kinda silly but I want to give it a try.  ;D

Nice to see you again here Vince. I know electronic mercury vapor ballasts have existed in yard lights many years ago. Do you still have your Heath Zenith mercury vapor area light?

Ah, didn't remember that! Weren't they in those funky-looking Electripak fixtures by any chance? I think they used special low-voltage mercury lamps that had sub-170V open circuit voltage. Or maybe I'm mixing things up here.

Not specifically that one (though I still have its ballast, and its socket sits on a 100W mercury test board). At some point I did buy another one, which I still have.

I don't think Electripak ever had an electronic ballast MV fixture but there were a few brands that did.
That's too bad you don't still have that original mercury vapor area light. What about the maroon Paragon photocontrols do you still have those? I liked those lol

Electronic MV would be pretty neat. Especially if you can make them compact for the 100w under range.

I have a 80w ICI Nite-Lite that had a electronic ballast. It was kinda cheaply built, like a small plastic powerbracket but the electronic ballast was pretty neat.
