Because LEDs inhibits the sleeping hormones, I wonder if LEDs can keep bus and truck drivers driving for more time than they should before taking a break or changing the driver, leading to accidents.  :wndr:

Here in the UK, drivers are limited to how long they can drive before taking a break, look at this link for more information.

Here in the UK, drivers are limited to how long they can drive before taking a break...
...unless there's an inspector there. A sleepy driver is likely to forget things, so they will drive extra. Also, the driver was exposed to huge amounts of blue light, so sleeping during that break is almost impossible, so the driver is likely to be sleepy after the break. It is like watching movies in your tv all the night and then going to bed and pretending you will fall asleep in 5 minutes, no, in 45 minutes at least, what a driver break last in the UK. Also, LED light causes short term eye problems, so an hour is enough to cause you eyestrain and focus problems that of course can lead to accidents. The eye is more sensitive to blue light at night, so those effects I mentioned will multiply, and also the poor LEDs optics will blast you with glare.

Comparating a table of accidents in roads with the date of the LEDs where installed will prove if my theory is correct or wrong. For me LEDs in the roads are dead traps.

They don't necessarily have to sleep during their break, having a meal is enough, but some bosses will try and get their drivers to use the time loading  and unloading as their 'break' and that's when drivers get too tired and have accidents. :poof:

I believe the glare was actually better than the glare from LED cobraheads. The higher mounting height seems to have helped in that regard.

Here's a shot of the old LPS lights on the Gardiner:

And the PG17 luminaires:

Very nice, I will say that LPS does a great job of lighting the road with little to no glare!

I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

Absolutely.! The best night time driving I've done is under LPS lighting.

Interstates aren't really lit up around here. No need for it really. Major cities light them up sometimes but honestly I would prefer if they remain unlit. Around major turns would be useful tk have a light or two.

Might sound hilarious, but what if I wear those anti blue light glasses that people uses for sitting long times at the computer? I think it might help mitigating the blue light coming from the LEDs.  :wndr:

HID lighting can be useful on highways but if it has to LED I would just prefer it to be unlit. LED cobraheads create so much glare that it actually makes it harder to drive at night.

I’m only guessing that it’s harder because I am in the car with my parents at night and they HATE LED street lighting. They say it is dangerous due to all of the glare. Hopefully by the time I’m old enough to drive all of the LEDs will have dimmed out.

Did you see my HPS vs LED cobrahead comparison? It in the photo, you can see how much more glare and stray light the LED fixture has than the previous FCO 70w HPS.
