Samsung s4 screen replacement has low colour quality « on: December 23, 2017, 08:26:17 PM » Author: Flurofan96
Hey all

Recently I had to get my s4 screen replaced because I dropped my s4 on the floor and the internal screen cracked but the touchscreen glass was in good nick !!! However the replacement screen colour quality is poor compared to the original s4 screen because I went into one of these phone repair shops that you see on the high street. I went to one called iRepair and they said they do it for 90 quid and the job took 1 hour so it felt worth it.

The screen quality of colour is comparable to an overhead projector for interactive whiteboards that use short arc MH lamps, the reds look slightly crimson like dried up blood and the yellows look like mustard, yep you heard me  :D how on earth can it occur?? Why is that because I tried the settings to adjust the screen colour balance to no avail  :-X

Did they replace it with an AMOLED or LCD screen, lots of the knock offs on Ebay seem to be priced at LCD prices, and the AMOLED are two to three times there price on Aliexpress, it's easy to spot the difference if it's AMOLED or LCD a drop of water on the screen will magnify it and the AMOLED uses a PenTile subpixel arrangement that gives you only two subpixels per pixel, as opposed to three on a standard LCD.

So Amoled will be Green, Blue, Green, Red, repeat and the LCD will be Red, Green, Blue, repeat. There is a huge difference in performance, but the LCD's are easier to read in full sunlight..

Ah thats probably the reason why my s4 screen looks ghastly. Basic LCD screen technology as the cheap substitute to the original proper AMOLED screens of Samsung. There was a SAMSUNG retailer shop that you can send in your Samsung device if you have a serious issue. I asked there if they could replace the screen and they said they be able to do it for 100 quid. I was like NO WAY I"M not paying that amount of money, so I went to this iRepair shop said they would do it for 85 quid and they added me a screen guard for 5 quid so in total 90 quid. I was like oh heck this is probably as cheap as it gets so I went for it.

Also the s4 screen digitiser has got fluctuations in terms of response to touch sensitivity but overall it is OK. I am just hoping that I can get another 2 years out of my s4 because I really love it and I just like all my messages and photos of my friends and so on  8) and now I can use WhatsApp, Viber, SMS and Snapchat as well as Gmail, FaceBook and so on  8)

What I love about Samsung phones is of their excellent quality cameras, my s4 one still does the great job for a smartphone  8) plus for example the S8 phone still offers the good old headphone jack so you can plug in your favourite existing earphones  :D and I must say it looks much more swankier than the ipHone X so no need to buy a wireless headphone set. Plus I received a new pair of earphones for this year xmas

I've had pretty good luck just buying a bricked phone from somewhere like Kijiji for a few bucks, so long as the screen appears in good condition they all pretty much seem to work and it's not hard to swap out a screen on the S4 yourself, plus you wind up with all sorts of spare parts like camera's and speakers, and the thing I like about the S4 is it has external antenna ports, while that doesn't sound important if your in the bush where the cell signal is questionable simply adding external antennas can make a huge difference
