Suitable VHO ballast? « on: January 23, 2014, 11:08:14 PM » Author: BlueHalide
I recently acquired several 48" 110w VHO T12's of multiple color temps and would really like to use them. Unfortunately the only VHO ballasts I can find are electronic and operate " 60" 140w, 72" 160w and spacesaver 57.5" 140w lamps". I do not mind electronic ballasts but will that ballast drive 4-foot 110w lamps? or just automatically shut down when it detects improper lamp current? Ive also thought of buying a standard output instant start 3-lamp F40T12 ballast and wiring all the leads to a single VHO tube, and should only be overdriven by 20w...is this feasible?

I have gave my lamps a test run on 4x20 watt ballast
On high line votage.  It fires right up on preheat and drove lamps around 1400 mA . I also did this with 5 foot
T17 lamp.

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

Check eBay for VHO ballasts .. I've gotten a couple non-electronic ones from there fairly cheap :)
