How are these incandscents? « on: January 10, 2014, 05:24:24 AM » Author: Keyless
How are these bulbs for people who have tried them? Do they really last 25,000 hours? Are they a quality product or just a gimmick?

Because of the bulb ban taking place Im thinking about stocking up with a few cases of Feit decade lightbulbs. The life is a huge catch. Especially since the philips bulbs at Home depot only have about a 1000 hour life.

I have not tried the Feit decade bulbs but I have Aero Tech bulbs which are rated at 20,000 hours. These bulbs are considered rough service and likely rated at 130v. When used on a 120v line the bulb life is significantly increased because it is under driven. However the trade off is the light output is nowhere near that of a regular bulb of the same wattage. In this case the 60 watt long life bulb is only about as bright as a regular 40 watt so its not as efficient. The light will appear more yellow as well so its not really the best quality light for household use in my opinion. Typically you would use these bulbs for work lights, garage door, hard to reach/change places, etc.

I checked the Aerro tech bulbs out online. Are they top quality or at least how do they measure in quality wise?

I do agree these these are really 40 watts when comparing lumens. Light is yellower but in certain rooms I actually like it, especially for bed time reading lamps since the harshness normally is irritating when tired. Ceiling fixtures might get leds after the regular 60s are used up.

Im split between ordering several cases of the feit or the Aero tech.

I would say that Aero Tech are good quality plus they are made in USA. I mainly use the Aero Tech bulbs for my work light, garage door opener and a few other places where its subject to rough conditions. The most rough use for me is the work light which frequently gets dropped on the floor, it held up very well. Amazon has the Aero Tech bulbs otherwise you can order it from their site directly. I haven't found any of these bulbs in store.

Another alternative if you don't need rough service or super long life you can consider halogen bulbs which are about as bright as the incandescent but uses less energy. Sylvania has the halogen bulbs in both the regular 1000 hour and 2000 hour version in a 4 pack. You can find those at most stores in a pack of 4 for around $7, also comes in pack of 2 as well. They have it in 40, 60, 75 and 100w equivalents. I use these bulbs around the house and its light quality is similar to incandescent except maybe a bit whiter. The 3000 hour version is very hard to find but its rated at the same lumens as the incandescent equivalent. There is another one called Vybrant2X which are 50w but with 100w light output last 1500 hours, those you would need to buy online though.

Not sure if you tried GE Reveal or something similar. Those bulbs seem to make the some of the colors pop out more. Seems to make the red and blue colors stand out more. I personally don't like the color output that much on these types of bulbs.

25,000 hours incandescents, may have a light, which is too much yellow and dim to be effective for general lighting.
