This topic is about lamp bans in Europe.
Here we can discuss and give each other information about lamp bans (and ballasts).

Here are some PDF files about the bans:
ELC
Osram

If you have a nice PDF file about bans, just post it. I do not have all the knowlegde about the bans. This post is probably not complete yet!

I do not think anyone actually knows what they are going to do to be honest. I will be contacting my Local MP about these bans. I know i am going to try and do everything i can.

Copied and pasted from Osram's document. Does this mean the lamps are really not banned at all, simply withdrawn from sale to users?

Definition of phase-out:
Phasing out means that the relevant product
groups may no longer be placed on the
market in the European Union. This relates
to initial marketing only.
Stocks at OEMs, wholesalers and end
customers are not affected of course and
may continue to be sold and used as they
are already on the market and the measures
do not relate to the use of the products.

Not really.
"Placing on the market" mean manufacturing and/or importing into the Europe.
So "phased out" lamps, that are already physically present in he Europe may be freely redistributed, traded and so on.
So you only can not manufacture, nor import e.g. light bulbs.

But you may freely make frosted "heat bulbs, that happen to emit light as well" of any wattage, but this is another story... :-D

I don't know why about the incandescent lamps ban in Israel, however, about more then 50% of the houses in Israel, have energy saving lamps, almost all of them are CFLs.

I will miss to see lamps like: MV, some MH, T12 FT, light bulbs ,Halogen, even some HPS lamps (coated ones e.g.) also retrofit lamps,...
So I will collect a little spare-mix of all lamps and want not ever seen in my home a CFL !

@Medved: The heat ball idea is stopped here in Germany by the customs sadly...

And what was the official reasoning?

They have to controll if they are under the law 244/9 (light bulbs from the wattage x are forbidden to be took in the EU) and if this is legal. However I know they stopped in Koeln/Cologne 40000 100w lamps.

But they were officially 100W heaters (i guess they were really officially declared so in the papers), so there is no ground for stopping them for the 244/9 act...
