Hi guys and girls, My name is Rich, I live in Cheshire in the UK.
I have been interested in lighting since I was about 8 years old, and I first notest the street lighting being changed over from 80watt mercury lamps, to the 35watt low pressure sodium lamps in our town in the early 80s, (I`m now 38!!).
I now have a large collection of lamps, HID and GLS....
It consists of the following...
MERCURY LAMPS
50watt, 6 x Sylvania, 2 x osram ( all MBF type)
80watt, 1 x Thorn, 2 x Osram, 2 x Philips, (all 3 pin BC, MBF)
125watt, 2 x Osram, 1 x GE WDX, 3 x Philips MBFR type
250watt, 2 x GEC Truelites, 3 x GE, one standard, one DX, one WDX, and 1 x Philips MB/U (clear bulb)
400watt, 3 x Philips MB/U, 1 x GE MBF standard
Mercury blended lamps are,
1 x Osram 160watt MBTF
4 x Philips 500watt MBTF

LOW PRESSURE SODIUM LAMPS
18watt, 13 x Philips
35watt, 1 x Thorn, and 1 x Osram
55watt, 1 x Philips
90watt, 1 x GE
135watt, 1 x Philips
180watt, 1 x Philips
140watt Thorn SLI/H linear type
200watt GEC SLI/H

HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM LAMPS
50watt, 2 x GE
70watt, 4 x Philips SON-E, 1 x GE Lucalox-T, 1 x Osram NAV-T, 6 x Osram NAV-E (internal ignitor)
150watt, 1 x Thorn SON-T, 2 x Osram NAV-T, 1 x Philips SON-T, 1 Lucalox DL-T
250watt, 2 x Osram NAV-E, 1 x Osram NAV-T, 2 x US Lucalox-T
400watt, 1 x GEC Solarcolour-T

METAL HALIDE LAMPS
70watt, 2 x BLV HIT-DE, 1 x Osram HCI-TS Powerball, 2 x Philips CDM-TD Master, 1 x Osram Powerstar HQI-E clear
100watt, 2 x Osram HQI-E
150watt, 2 x Osram HQI-T, 1 x GE Arcstream
250watt, 1 x GE MBIF, 1 x Osram HQI-T daylight
400watt, 1 x Venture CB/U, 1 x Venture HBU/LU, 1 x GE Kolorarc MBI/T, 1 x Osram Powerstar HQI-T

I also have about 20, 200watt GLS lamps with, `British Railways` printed on the top of them, and all sizes of flourescent tubes from 8watt, up to the 125watt 8 foots.

Hi Rich, welcome!
I'm a newbie too, joined just a couple of days ago!  :)
Your early recollection of the streetlights being changed over is amazingly like the story of my best mate who has also often commented about the lanterns being changed in the 80's and watching it being done! He's a lighting nut like us too LOL.
