Some businesses still use neon signs. Some of the signs have been in continuous service for at least a decade. The most common around here are window signs or backlit lettering on older buildings.

Unfortunately they are being phased out rapidly as they fail. And the rise of LED “fake neon” is taking over applications were real neon could be used. I’ve heard that (real) neon might be making a comeback in the forum of novelty used by interior designers. I can’t stand that LED fake neon, it’s just as ugly as that “industrial-barnhouse” decor trend going around. But yeah I remember when neon was everywhere practically.

Yep, I do remember,
and like you I love them,
and the little buzzing sounds they make,
and ones with flickering EOL sections,
and...(well you get the idea)

Yeah, a lot of stores used to have one of those neon open signs in their window. Some still do but are either LED or LED fake neon, it's rare to see a real neon one. Same goes for the old style neon store front signs although those haven't been in common use here for a while.

Neon also used to be common for dynamic/blank out traffic signage before flip dot displays and LED signs. Even neon pedestrian signals were made at one point.

Not much Neon sign lights left anymore here. There actual installation I know in our city are coulored  neon numbers in windows of a bank which was refurbished in 1999. In Zurich train main station the high ceiling is lit by artistic neon lamps.

And I built a Neon deco light for my ex.
