I noticed that the ribbed style glass dome shades that was reminiscent of Holophane glass seemed to be in vogue during the 1990s. These glass shades, of various styles, were seen on bathroom vanity fixture, ceiling fan lights, pendant fixtures, and probably among others. Especially with polished brass trim.

These fixtures are still sold today, the five shade dining room fixture sold by Hampton Bay is actually called the “Halophane.” Maybe to get around trademark issues.

Did anyone else notice the popularity of this.

I believe true vintage Holophane low bay fixtures were also popular in some homes during the 1990s. I saw pictures of them above kitchen islands in magazines from the era.

I guess they were also popular in commercial buildings into the 2000s, as the PrismGlows seem to be in a lot of schools and retail settings from that time.

Yeah, using Halophane is just plain cheesy...Hampton Bay is a Home Depot brand made you know where.
If I do a search on eBay for Holophane, I get a lot of the glass lenses you mention...they're not Holophane and it really is annoying when it fills up the screen with this stuff.

I sometimes see Halophane as a misspelling of Holophane by eBay sellers. Kinda like the common misspelling flourescent.

IIRC I think I also bought a reproduction fixture that referred to the glass as Halophane too.

Holophane highbays and lowbays were very popular here in Israel during the Steinitz era. Steinitz imported to here in Israel, lots of American fixtures, including Holophane, Crouse-Hinds and Cooper.
