Can a Universal 539-SL ballast run a F24T12 lamp? « on: November 06, 2024, 08:49:55 PM » Author: Bulbman256
Hey all,

I’m looking for a magnetic ballast that will fit my single lamp F24T12 strip light, and the universal 539-SL fits. The issue is that it’s only listed to run F48T12 lamps and I was wondering if it would be fine to run a F24 on it.

I would not advise running a singe lamp on a  single lamp  F48T12 slimeline ballast.

I find it best to use a preheat ballaat and FA2 starter parallel  with the lamp.  Even though lamp cant be preheated it will take
A bit to start up.

Option two is Instant start F32T8 two lamp
Ballast with both output tied together
Since it have provision to run F17T8 .

But  for F48T12 your better off running two F24T12 in series on single lamp ballast F48T12

No LED gadgets, spins too slowly.  Gotta  love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

The Advance SM-140-S-TP, which I believe is the Advance version of the Universal 539-SL, is listed as operating
F40T12/IS, F40T17/IS, F48T12, F42T12, F36T12, and F24T12. There are several SM-140-S-TP ballasts on eBay but kind of pricey.

I currently have a 3 lamp F32T8 ballast in the fixture with 2 of the wires being used for the F24T12, I just want something that is magnetic. Unfortunately for me however the channel won't fit a standard sized slimline ballast and will only take something as big as a standard F40T12 rapid start ballast. The 539 would fit I just do not know if it would run right with a 2 foot lamp. :wndr:
