I am sorry if this is a cliché question, but I am a new person to HID lamps.
I have a ballast for 400w lamps. It says it is for hps/mh, but also has mv base. Current - 2.10a Voltage - 240v 50hz There is also an ignitor inside the ballast with separate compartment, a three wire one (red, yellow & black). So it says no ignitor.
I won't be running the lamps for very long, only a short test of about however long it takes to warm up. I have- HPS 400w MH 400w (4 of them with unknown base, MV or not) MV 400w
Also, is there any other precaution while running the lamps?

The ballast states HPS/MH, which means that it can operate HPS and MH lamps that are designed to HPS ballast like Osram HQI-BT 400W/D or Philips HPI-T Plus and GE Arcstream.

I think it can run all of these, except the MV lamp which would be overdriven. You need an ignitor.

What kind of ignitor exactly? Can I run the MV for a short time (10 mins?)?

HPS and MH ignitors. You can run the MV lamp for a short time.

The ballast has a 3 wire ignitor already inside. Thanks for the help!

It is always a gamble with off-brand metal halide lamps if they are sodium (4A) or mercury (3.25A) ballast rated. 3-electrode MH lamps are generally expected to be mercury ballasted, no way to predict for 2-electrode ones. More, even sodium ballasted MH lamps often (but not all!) run at higher than HPS burner voltage, so actual ballast current falls in some 3.4-3.7A range in fact.
