Filament LEDs. Both a blessing and a curse.

I typically use a damp paper towel or cloth and lightly run it over the etch area. Typically, I only lose etches if my skin directly contacts the etch; I believe oils in the skin cause this, but I'm not entirely sure.

But, if your tube or lamp is extremely valuable to you, do what Tim (Wide-Lite) said, just in case.

I usually use a damp cloth or paper towel to clean the parts with no etching then use a cotton tip to clean around the etch.
The cotton bud method also works really well for cleaning the small gaps between the tubes of CFL and PL lamps.

In the times of COVID craze I accidentally found out that synthetic alcohol wipes, cheap at any pharmacy, are also a very convenient and efficient way to clean almost anything, from a fly-ridden refrigerator to lamp surfaces. Gentle on a glass, but MAY remove some poorly made etchings/markings. Now I always keep a box of them just in case.
