Hey all! While I was in New York recently, I was able to acquire one of the former 100w MV necklace lights taken from the Brooklyn Bridge when it was converted to LED. I am in the process of restoring it and making a display stand for it akin to a large table lamp. I now own a piece of the Brooklyn Bridge, how wild is that? Updates will be slow as I’m not able to give it much time at the moment.

I like the fact that this is among the most non-decorative fixtures out there, but when they were arranged high up there on the cables it made for a very elegant decorative effect.
I’m glad you were able to get one and display it as a piece of history (even if it was better before the conversion).

Cool that you were able to get one !! I remember seeing these with clear lamps in them back in the early-mid 80's !

That is very cool! I had to go look up the pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge that I took 10 years ago to see if I had any close pictures of those lights.

Thanks all! I got the interior rebuilt, though I had to replace the original jefferson electric cwa ballast at least for now with an HX i had in stock. The original one is quite rusty, especially the cap. If you have closeup pics of these necklace lights in situ that you would like to share that would be fantastic!!

Here’s some more pics of the interior before restoration. And speaking of restoration, I’m merely cleaning the loose dirt off of the fixture inside and out, then rinsing it off. It’s not a deep scrub since that in my view would remove a bit of the authenticity of it. Later on I’ll make a folder in my gallery and upload full res photos. The big hole in the bottom is for a L6-30 flanged bulkhead plug and the two small wires are from a fuse holder mounted in the bottom. I was able to save the plug by placing it in a plastic bag full of white vinegar and leaving it outside in the sun for a day to eat off the corrosion. It still is quite grungy but now at least makes good contact and is free of rust.

You have to look closely as these were installed on all four bridges from manhattan to long island. The biggest difference I’ve seen between them is the mounting plates and I believe the queensboro bridge ones were also painted.

I didn't know Litton Industries made ballasts! I know they did make microwaves, typewriters, and cruise missiles though.

Great save! Especially given the provenance of it. I'd try to salvage the original ballast core if it still works. The capacitor I'd probably swap out though.
