Diehard MV, HPS, SOX & Preheat Fluorescent Fanatic

I'm worried that I may have missed out on getting an SOX lamp that doesn't cost a fortune both for the lamp and the postage. Is all hope gone or do I still have a chance at getting an SOX lamp that's within my price range of $25 or less?

Sox lamp were never really cheap in the USA in last 20 years And sox lamp been out of production pushing the prices up For lamps. U will have to learn to save up your money and Bite the bullet if u want to have a sox lamp.
I just got lucky with 35 , 55 watt and 90 watt sox lamps at restores And got them super cheap. But I had pay over 100 buck for my philip 180 watt sox lamp now it pusing 250 dollar range in USD. !

If you have some time, I would run a search on eBay for SOX lamps on a weekly on even daily basis. Sooner or later you'll find a listing that's cheaper. I would keep an eye on auction style eBay listings too, you might be able to get a good deal if you bid strategically at the last minute.
Also I find the 18w, 35w, and 55w lamps to usually be cheaper too.

Yeah, you're never going to get one at that price, especially if you want a complete fixture and not just the lamp itself. It's the law of supply and demand, I'm afraid. You want it, you've got to pay the price or go without

Don't just look for SOX lamps. You might get lucky and find someone selling one cheap who doesn't know what it is. I've seen LPS listed as neon and fluorescent in the past. I struck gold on the latter a few days ago. A SOX lamp and a fixture listed as fluorescent for £10 (+£10 postage). Cheap enough for me to risk the lamp getting damaged in transit. I'll still have a fixture if it is. So don't despair, there may be the perfect listing for you out there. And as they are few and far between, it will make finding it even more rewarding.

Yeah, that's a good point. Sometimes seller confuse between the different lamp types and so it might not even be labelled as SOX. Low pressure sodium is another term worth searching as it's common to refer to SOX by it in the US.
Also a fixture + lamp bundle will usually be more expensive than finding the lamp and gear separately and building something on your own.

Not always, we picked this up for less than it would have cost buying them separately.

feel free to ask questions

Hello 108CAM,
It might not sound very helping to you, but ill say it anyway. Never give up. Thats the joy of collecting, youll find youll loos, and then when you least expect it you find a tresure. I found SOX lamps (Vintage 70s lamps in NOS) in skips, garage sales and so on. Just never give up and youll get lucky. If you would find everything directly without hastle, the hobby is worthless as it only becomes the horting of glasware with some metal in it.
Best regards,
Alex

I had a look on eBay and found someone selling a 35w SOX lamps with all the required gear. I couldn't resist buying the last one because the price was around $90 AUD not including P&H. Currently waiting for it to arrive and hope that the lamp will be in one piece. I also hope it will fit inside the fixture shell I have prepared for it.

I'm now very happy that I got my 35w SOX bundle when I did as the same seller has listed some more but the price has gone up quite a bit. I got my bundle for about $70 AUD plus another $70 for shipping. The shipping has now jumped to $169 AUD which is quite silly considering the fact my bundle plus it's shipping cost me the same as the shipping on the new listing. I'm still very happy to have gotten my lamp & gear for such a great price.
