MV or MH?? « on: July 22, 2022, 12:45:57 AM » Author: Gearjammer
Just wondering if anyone has any idea what type of lamp that I noticed lit up in the so-called yardblaster.
It's a coated lamp with a very bright white light but it seems like it has just the very slightest hint of a pinkish hue.
I have no idea how old it is.
Couldn't get a picture because of a combination of my phone camera and because it's on someone else's property.
Any ideas??

I’d guess it’s probably a coated MH? If not it could be a very new /DX MV.

I’ve always been interested in all kinds of lighting, mainly incandescent and HID, and especially all kinds of sodium lamps (HPS/LPS). I’ll tolerate LED but I’m not a fan of it.
I’m not proud to say that my city has Devolved to LED.

Is it really an HID?

If it is something really new, it could be one of the Philips "TForce HPL-LED" retrofit lamp...

As far as I know that lamp is likely from the 90s, but it doesn't get used very much.

What you describe of sounds exactly like a coated MV lamp.  It being from the nineties also kind of confirms that.

I believe that in the 1990’s, there were no yard blaster type of fixtures that ran metal halide lamps. That would make it very likely to be a mercury vapour lamp. Have you been able to see it strike and warm up ?
