What are the long term consequences of this? I heard from someone that it may destroy the ballast. Is this true?

Operating saturated vapour HPS lamps retrofits for MV lamps on CWA, will cause the lamp to work at a dangerously high current.
For CWA ballasts, there are unsaturated lamps like EYE SunLux ACE or Philips Ceramalux Retrolux.

This is what you would want for the lowbay fixtures.

They're a bit pricey and not a single one has sold, so maybe they'll come down in price soon.

In my case it toasted the lamps ! Both the 360w and the 880w lamps I have were new in the sleeves. both ran fine for a few minutes but now constantly cycle even on a HX ballast .  :(
