Another City is starting to revolt against LED street lighting « on: May 10, 2017, 07:22:50 PM » Author: Lodge
Well is seems another city, Halifax in Canada is starting a revolt against the new LED street lighting.. http://www.cbc.ca/radio/thecurrent/the-current-for-may-9-2017-1.4105101/it-s-early-morning-all-night-long-halifax-residents-revolt-over-led-street-lights-1.4105104

As I grow older, I've learned you can't please everyone, but pissing them off is a piece of cake, So I'll wait and see how this all turns out, maybe they will get lucky like the city of Davis California, where they actually changed out the Harsh 4000K LED lighting to a much warmer color temperature...

This has been brewing in the provincial news for the past month. The electric utility here has put no efforts in aiming or shielding luminaries. With the new LED streetlights installed all over this province, which are all full cutoff, are not always aimed properly. I have seen homes where I would not like to live for the same reason, only not in Halifax. I'm not sure who is responsible for the Halifax city streetlight procurement, but elsewhere in Nova Scotia, it is Nova Scotia Power who orders the luminaries and the arms. They have several types of arms, and they seem to install whatever is the handiest. Installing different arms to individually suit the locations would make more sense. While driving, the glare from some (not all) of the streetlights is quite bright.

Oh, and not only that, but when spot replacing, they use whatever wattage is handiest. Some lower mounted lights are higher wattage than the next one which has the opposite configuration. Go figure !

Thanks for the article.  I have passed it along to my contacts at XCEL and a rep from the local community group that I live in when they consider the neighborhood swapping out from the 100W HPS to LEDs.  I bet they go with 3000k.  Which will be JUUUUUUUUUST fine.  Better color than the HPS, but not ice white.

The more you hate the LED movement, the stronger it becomes.

It sounds like Halifax just didn't do any homework on there light choices :> https://civilityproject.org/articles/2017/4/19/led-lights-installed-in-halifax-rejected-in-toronto-calgary-and-elsewhere

Well I guess there is never enough time or money to do it right, but somehow in government there is always enough time and money to do it twice ...

And the photo in that link, shows the inside of some persons houses, it looks like he built it in the middle of a car dealerships parking lot, I can see why they are unhappy, I can't really blame them...

Interesting that here in Israel, people being indulged to the LED lighting. My mother said that the light in her house that she most love, is her 4000K LED panel at her kitchen .

Governments are notorious for making their own decisions based on their beliefs, regardless of the others...

@Dor123 : I'm glad your mother likes this LED panel, however, I'm sure she doesn't sleep in the kitchen while it is lit !
