I was reading about early fluorescent bulbs and fixture development by GE and was not surprised that the fluorescent lamps were designed around the existing Lumiline bulbs and the mercury vapor bulbs of the day.
One thing mentioned also was that public acceptance of fluorescent lighting was slow at first as most people still wanted a round light bulb in a round fixture not a long bulb in a long fixture.
It took a while for the idea to catch on that the advantages of fluorescent over incandescent were in their favor.
This sounds strange now in the new electronic ballast era where the bulbs seem to last longer than the ballast.

I happen to have 3 GE Lumiline tubes in my collection and I would like to get a fixture for them.
