How many incandescents have you stocked up? « on: January 27, 2014, 03:12:34 PM » Author: themaritimegirl
Hi all,

Just for fun and my own curiosity, I thought I would ask, for those of you who still use and intend to use incandescent lamps, how many do you currently have stocked up?

This can include clear, frosted, soft white, daylight, and Reveal bulbs; A, T, G, PS, and other lamp shapes that allow use in at least some types of general lighting fixtures; and any wattage that allows use in at least some types of general lighting fixtures. It excludes halogen bulbs, colored bulbs, reflectors, bug lights, and other specialty bulbs, and bulbs which you never intend to put into service.

I'll start off - Mom and I collectively have 51 bulbs in storage, and 15 currently in use. I'm sure these numbers are nothing compared to some of you guys.  :D

I haven't used incandescents since late 90's, mainly because where my parents live (and whete I lived before I moved), the incandescents tend to explode violently at the end of their life, creating quite a lot of mess. And it was the late 90's, when the CFL's become affordable. Since early 90's, I already converted some of the fixtures to PL-S, bot only with the CFL it was possible to replace all incandescents.
But as here the ban came on September 2009, it was that day, when I started to look to buy incandescents again, at least to have some from each wattage, just in case I will need some in the future.
Now I have at least 5 pieces from each wattage from 40 to 200W, I'm still looking for some 300W ones...

I always collected incandescent bulbs but in 2002 the collection growed significantly because I had access to a large stock of bulbs meant for steetlighting so I bought a couple of Luxram S lamps in every wattage rating from 60W - 2000W. At the same time a storage clerk gave me a shoe box full with vintage bulbs.

Now I got over 250 different incandescent bulbs including those for regular use at homes. This year I will spend over 500 CHF for new bulbs from RIGHI LICHT AG, the very last bulb manufacturer in  here in Switzerland. As they still make high wattage lamps I'll focus on them.

This week I'll get two or three NOS 150W silver crown mirrored inside frosted bulbs from work. Hopefully I can get them for free.

Have stocked up a handful as the lamps have slowly appeared back on the shelves again in England. The "ban" only seems to apply to Osram, Philips, GE and Sylvania over here with lamps available up to 100w in both pearl and clear finishes from smaller manufacturers. Brands found in local small household stores include Bell (British Electric Lamps Limited - although they are most certainly not British!!!), Maxim, Crompton and Status. Although some are marked "rough service" not all of them are! I also noted rough service Philips lamps still made and sold in 60w pearl at ServiTech Outillages, Chausee de Mons, Anderlecht Belgium whilst on a visit last weekend.

Well over a thousand GLS lamps, but 100~200 are rare/collectible in some way and not used except for testing purposes.  I also have around a thousand miniature lamps for electronics experiments and 12V emergency lighting.

I have no plans to stock up incandescents. I would love to stock up on LEDs but prices are pretty high on those products at this time.

6500K Color Temperature Kelvin lighting works for me. I use 6500K CFL in all my incandescent light fixtures. I use 6500K Flurescent bulbs in my flurescent fixtures. I hope prices get better and hope I find 6500K LED lighting in the future. I love energy efficient and Energy Star products. Way to go!

Well, considering after having 3 CFLs with the electronic ballasts managed to stink up my home with one almost setting my home on fire, I have been pretty proactive at stocking up on the good old incandescents!  I probably have gosh, maybe 40 60W lamps, all Sylvania, and probably 100 40W lamps all also Sylvania!  Still getting more as I find them! ;D
