Say goodbye to 40 and 60 watt incandescent bulbs, they're banned in 2014 and it won't be long before they're no longer available in stores so stock up now.  :(

Easy fix...use 40w appliance lamps and 60w rough service lamps. (Yes, I know the lumens will be lower, but my assumption is you want to continue using incandescents to maintain the original appearance & light distribution of the fixture).

But I can't say I'll miss these...I stopped using GLS incandescents in the late 1990's. I've stocked up on the older halogens & magnetic CFLs instead.

So the US is dumping 40s and 60s this year!, interesting, I also haven`t used GLS since I moved into my house in 1995.
I have a mix of Halide, LED, CFL here now.

Are ceiling fan bulbs exempt?

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

As new ceiling fans have to be shipped from the factory only with "energy saving" lamps already a few years, I strongly doubt...

The halogens are no win at all either: In real life they tend to last way shorter than rated...
