F40T12 CW main lighter premature EOL « on: February 03, 2014, 05:33:33 PM » Author: Powell
I put this lamp into service at WKDK last year. It had been abused and one end ( the one that went EOL) had a black smudge. It got lighter over time. I am not working there much anymore, and I got a call for lighting maintenance.  The non EOL end has very light end banding. The EOL end is very black but the filament is intact. It lit and stayed lit after flashing a bit ( I took the starter out finally) on my 2 lamp preheater.  It appears that GE used a fine long filament in these also.  It is an outside etch mainlighter.  I think I will let it go all the way EOL with the starter removed.....

I guess there are the occasional bad lamps in any batch of lamps. For example, the 34 Watt Alto tubes were all bad!
