Is the neon agressive also toward the electrodes of cold cathode fluorescent lamps like in the case of regular fluorescent lamps (As in US T12 HO, VHO and T17 GE Powergroove tubes and another heavy loaded and demonstration tubes) and retrofit HPS lamps?
I saw three times a neon buffered cold cathodes fluorescent lamps with the first two of them i don't noted for this.
1. An old Mustek scanner at my father office, where the light color of its cold cathode fluorescent lamp suddenly changed from white to red. I noted much later that the scanner lamp was went mercury starved and because it was burned red instead of pink or purple, it buffer gas was neon.
2. An old parallel connected HP Scanjet scanner at my mother home, where the ends of its cold cathode fluorescent lamp glowed red. Initially i thought that this was from the incandescence of the electrodes, but now i know that this glow was a neon negative glow around them.
3. A hollow cathode fluorescent sign at "Canyon Haifa" mall, where there was a red neon glow (Knowing this from the initial discover) inside the electrodes (This sign replaced or changed later).

I think for cathodes it is the same.The energy depend on the cathode fall necessary for emitting electrons and this is more dictated by electrodes (shape, material,...)...
