I’ve noticed lately that most of the new poles that Duke Energy installs have these gray cones of some sort on top. Awhile ago I noticed them using black rubber or plastic like caps that had a small point.

I’m guessing these new cones are to keep birds from landing on the poles and these and those caps are to also stop water infiltration to the pole and rotting.

Some older poles I’d seen with aluminum wrapped on top of the pole.

Has anyone seen these new cones? Another thing I used to see was traffic cones on the pole, especially poles with wooden crossbars.
