Is this a good idea to put my bug zapper near a window? « on: November 03, 2024, 11:25:28 AM » Author: dor123
Tutors in my hostel, put the power splitter that my bug zapper and the emergency lighting was connected, to use it in my hostel intercom, and moved my bug zapper to near the left window of the living room.
Is this good that the bug zapper would be there?

Well, bug zappers are controversial in the use, as they kill many harmless and beneficial insects indiscriminately. Without a bug screen in the window, it will certainly attract more of them from the outside in this position. With a bug screen I won't care.

I don't think it is a good idea to place it so it is attracting insects through the window. Even when the screen is in, it will attract a lot of insects, so more of them will find their way through or around the screen (via some crevice,...) into your room. So bottom line, you end up with more of them bothering you.
Plus a lot of the useful insects will unnecessarily die by exhaustion attempting to find the way towards the light.

These insect killers are intended only to get the ones that really went inside, so should be placed somewhere away from the window.
The first defense should be to discourage the insect from approaching your home in the first place, so the screen, using lights not attracting them on the outside,...
