When these lights burn out, can the LED bulbs be changed or does a new fixture have to be installed? They are about 8 years old.

In LED lanterns, there are no light bulbs. The LEDs can't be replaced.

So the vintage light fixtures could last 50 + years, but the LED Light Fixtures have to be replaced every time the LED burns out? So modern light fixtures only have a 10 year or so lifespan?

Yes. LED fixtures are throwaway devices.

Modern HID fixtures also have a shorter lifespan than their older counterparts, with many lasting no longer than 30 years.

There are LED fixtures with replaceable parts, but not a lot of people actually repair them. They just throw them out.

Those lights shown could last 50 years, but that would be the housings alone. Assuming they could be repaired, they would have gone through 1-2 LED boards/drivers (though nowadays that number is higher in some cases, mainly the cheaper stuff).

The repairable LED lanterns are essentially the same case as ink/toner for printer.
