What's the difference between these BL colours? « on: August 05, 2024, 06:25:28 AM » Author: LightsAreBright27
I am confused about the difference between these bl colours in fluorescent tubes-

Philips /01- https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=8026&pos=13&pid=244894
Philips /10- https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=8026&pos=55&pid=243816
Philips actinic BL- https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=8026&pos=38&pid=244045
Narva /073- https://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=8026&pos=41&pid=243861

I have seen off-brand bl tubes either having the philips actinic bl colour or the narva bl colour.
Can someone tell me the different wavelengths and purposes of each?

All of them are the same color. The Philips /10R have an internal reflector, and the Philips /01 is for the US and Canada markets.
The light color actually comes from the mercury vapor. The phosphor emits in the UVA radiation only.
These lamps are used in insect trappers and zappers and as an actinic lamp for uses like printing plates making.

I only working with the international date format (dd.mm.yyyy).

Actually, /01 lamp has 311nm dominant waveleghth, rather rare, and expensive, according to James. It is UV-B, which is stated on the etch, and needs some care with skin exposure.

Applications are phototherapy, photochemistry, and again according to James, light-fastness testing.

Are you both banned from Google? The first link returned by searching for lamp type reveals a proper manufacturer's datasheet!

I and LightsAreBright27 aren't banned from Google. I didn't noticed the Narrowband UVB on the Philips /01, but only the warnings for the American market.

Thanks for the link! I still don't understand the difference between the actinic bl and the more purplish bl.
Also, I am not banned from Google, it just doesn't give proper links anymore (too much ai).

There are two versions of BL phosphor, one with 360-368nm range, and one slightly more shortwave at about 350nm. May be used at random. /10 color seems to be a longer wavelength one. Not a big deal. Also, of course, there is an option of filtered Wood's glass or just plain translucent tube.

For a search, I prefer to use Dutch startpage.com anonymous search aggregating service+proxy.

IMHO, "Actinic" is just a trademark often used for unfiltered UVA tubes in 350-380nm range.
