My parents never used CFL much. I remember, the electric company sent a box with some CFL to all customers, when the government was really pushing CFLs and going "green". I think about 2007/2008 or so. They tried them in a few fixtures, but the CFL were either too large to fit, or in cases where they did fit, they just burned out quickly. I'm thinking due to heat buildup, in the enclosed fixtures.
So after those CFL were used up, they never bought any themselves being unimpressed with them, and just used incandescent/halogen until now.
My grandmother though, was different. She used some of the earliest of CFL, I remember her having some she said were from the late 90s. As well as those circline bulbs that could be used inside lamp shades. Now, she's wanting to go all for LED, and she's had one her light fixtures replaced with LED. She even had the electric company replace the HPS streetlights near her house with LED.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.
