Title: How to remove wires from g13 sockets
Post by: Bean on February 19, 2022, 07:47:11 PM
So, g13 sockets hold their wires in very well in a way that they're never fall out during normal use. However when it comes to ballast changing, if you want a clean look, you hold the socket in one end and you tug and spin the wire at the same time and it will come out usually within 20 seconds.

Hope this helps.

You can also get some G13 lampholders with screw terminals instead of the push in connectors. Leviton 390-1W (https://www.leviton.com/en/products/390-1w) is a common style that some smaller mom and shop type hardware stores sometimes still stock.

I usually just use the same trick as you to reuse the push in lampholders but sometimes they loosen after repeated removals. You can bend the tab back from the back but it dosen't always work.

The main issue I have is the copper explosed section breaking which renders it useless. I have newer GE sockets that you can take the backs off (not supposed to, but they go back on and still look brand new), you can help pull out the wire.

Yeah the ones with the plastic backs are usually easy to open up to remove the wire. The ones with cardboard backs are hard to remove.

Personally if I had a light that I planned to frequently swap ballasts in, I would just use lampholders with screw terminals or the push in sockets with a short pigtail with Wagos on the other end. Not as clean looking but a lot easier to swap wires around.
